Mitsubishi Outlander earns Top Safety Pick+ Award
General Automotive Company, exclusive dealers of Mitsubishi in the Sultanate are proud to announce that the Mitsubishi Outlander has officially been recognised by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety crash test having earned a good rating in all of the test categories. The Outlander was awarded the Top Safety Pick+ award, joining its fellow Mitsubishi ASX, which also received the same accolade earlier this year. The recognition places Mitsubishi as the only brand with two light sport utility vehicles to receive the safety rating.
Mark Tomlinson, General Manager of Mitsubishi Oman commented, “The Outlander has been proved time and again to be the perfect family SUV – combining comfort on the highway and in an urban setting. It was designed to offer optimal protection in the event of an accident regardless of the type of collision, in addition to several other outstanding passive and active safety features. This certification from the IIHS cements its position as not just one of the most versatile vehicles, but also one of the safest in its class.”
On the open road, the modern suspension set-up offers satisfyingly solid ride characteristic of an expensive luxury sedan, while the electric power steering communicates excellent feedback from the road. The fabric-clad seats are comfortable for all - especially the front seats which feature outstanding torso and thigh support. Additionally, there is ample headroom for taller passengers. According to the IIHS, to earn the Top Safety Pick+ rating vehicles must be rated good in at least four out of the five crash tests, including the difficult small overlap front test, and earn no less than acceptable in the rear crash test. The Top Safety Pick rating requires that vehicles be rated good in the moderate overlap front, side, rollover and rear tests.
In addition to greater roof strength, the Outlander has been designed to withstand the moderate overlap front crash test and the recently introduced small overlap front crash test, both of which evaluate the ability of vehicles to protect their occupants in crashes that differ from the traditional front crumple zone, so as to provide maximum protection to passengers in the vehicle. Mark Tomlinson noted, “We are very proud to have received this certification, firstly for the ASX and now the Outlander. At General Automotive Company, we look at providing the best in product and services to our customers in Oman – this award is an example of Mitsubishi’s dedication towards driver and passenger safety.”
